September 2020

OPERA is continuing to publish on schedule during the coronavirus crisis – and, while opera houses worldwide temporarily shut their doors, the magazine continues to entertain and inform its loyal readership.
Each issue will include topical articles on aspects of the lockdown, and what it means for audiences, performers and all those in the opera world. We will continue to offer reviews of live performances and recordings, news and listings, keeping our readers up to date with the changing situation. Alongside this we will continue with our usual broad spread of features.
Features planned for September 2020 include:
  • Covid chronicles: opera bosses from around the world share their hopes, fears and ideas

  • Rupert Christiansen celebrates the life and work of Richard Bonynge, 90 this month

  • Great singers in great roles: Grace Bumbry launches a series of starry interviews by talking about Amneris

  • We profile the bel canto soprano Jessica Pratt

  • Opera Rara at 50: Roger Parker looks at how the record label has changed the opera world

  • Julia Lagahuzère, the former international casting director turned founder of Opera for Peace, talks to John Allison

  • Star tenor Piotr Beczała chooses his favourite recording
