July 2020

OPERA is continuing to publish on schedule during the coronavirus crisis – and, while opera houses worldwide temporarily shut their doors, the magazine continues to entertain and inform its loyal readership.
Each issue will include topical articles on aspects of the lockdown, and what it means for audiences, performers and all those in the opera world. We will continue to offer reviews of live performances and recordings, news and listings, keeping our readers up to date with the changing situation. Alongside this we will continue with our usual broad spread of features.
Features planned for July 2020 include:
  • Rising star soprano Natalya Romaniw in conversation
  • Christopher Webber looks at plagues in opera
  • Lawrence Brownlee on singing Rossini
  • Peter Jonas remembered, by David Pountney
  • Semyon Bychkov chooses his favourite recording
  • Anton Reicha, Beethoven’s friend and exact contemporary, rediscovered by Jan Smaczny
